HIGH ON GIN SOARS TO VICTORY IN THE
$100,000 MY TRUSTY CAT STAKES AT DELTA DOWNS

- FLORIDA-BRED FILLY GIVES JOCKEY DEVIN MAGNON SECOND CAREER STAKES WIN -

VINTON, LA. – There were plenty of fireworks on the toteboard at Delta Downs on Friday night as 20-1 longshot High On Gin pulled a big upset by winning the $100,000 My Trusty Cat Stakes with jockey Devin Magnon in the saddle. It was just the second career stakes win for the young rider who celebrated his 23rd birthday Wednesday.

High On Gin used a patient ride by Magnon as she sat well off the early pace set by Thirsty My Friend in the one mile test for 2-year-old fillies. Thirsty My Friend traveled the opening quarter mile in a time of 22.93 seconds before hitting the half mile in 47.70. As the field of nine approached the far turn the pacesetter gave way while High On Gin made a sweeping move and gained the lead at the top of the homestretch, where she drew clear and won by 5-1/4 length over Trixie Racer. Gone Glimmering, the 4-5 race favorite, settled for third another 1-1/2 lengths behind the top pair.

High On Gin, who is owned by Jerry Caroom and is conditioned by Carl J. Deville, covered the eight furlongs in a time of 1:42.75 while running on a sloppy track.

The win marked the third of High On Gin’s four-race career. She earned $60,000 for the effort and now owns a bankroll of $110,244. Her other big score came in the Happy Ticket Stakes at Louisiana Downs on September 7.

Bred in Florida by Deborah A Silveira, High On Gin is a bay filly by Fury Kapcori, out of the The Cliff’s Edge mare Holiday Ashley.

Fans who backed High On Gin at the wagering windows were rewarded with payoffs of $43 to win, $14.20 to place and $5 to show. Trixie Racer paid $6.80 to place and $3.20 to show. Gone Glimmering returned $2.20 to show.

Delta Downs will close out another race week on Saturday with a 10-race program highlighted by the $100,000 Jean Lafitte Stakes carded as the eighth race on the card.
