TO WIN THE MISS POLLY CLASSIC AT DELTA DOWNS

- THE INDIANA-BRED SNARES HIS SECOND STAKES WIN OF THE SEASON -

VINTON, LA. – Delta Downs kicked off its final weekend of American Quarter Horse racing for 2019 on Friday night and the featured race was the $50,000 Miss Polly Classic (G3), a stakes race for horses 3-years-old and up competing at 400 yards.

This year’s Miss Polly Classic was won by Patrick Richardson’s Stone Cold Leader under jockey Rolando Pina. The 4-year-old rallied past race favorite Eye N Capo in the final yards to get the win by a neck for trainer Nason Eschete. Vallerro finished another ¾ of a length behind the top pair in third. Stone Cold Leader covered the distance over a fast track in 19.654 seconds, which equaled a speed index of 93.

Stone Cold Leader has been ultra-consistent during his career, having now won 12 of 22 starts and finishing on the board in 20 of those trips to the starting gate. Friday’s race earned him $30,000 and he now has a lifetime bankroll of $490,333. He also won the Delta 550 Stakes at Delta Downs on May 4.

Stone Cold Leader is a 4-year-old brown gelding by Brookstone Bay, out of the Leader Of The Class mare Sheza Classy Leader. He was bred in Indiana by Mark Michel.

Sent to the gate at odds of 8-5, Stone Cold Leader paid $5.20 to win, $2.10 to place and $2.10 to show. Eye N Capo paid $2.10 to place and $2.10 to show as the 3-5 race favorite. Vallerro returned $2.80 to show.

Delta Downs’ season will come to a close on Saturday with another edition of Louisiana Showcase Night, highlighted by the $700,293 Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1). Each event on the 12-race card is for Louisiana-bred runners and there will be eight stakes races in all.
