GREELEY AND BEN DOMINATES IN THE
$75,000 SAM’S TOWN STAKES AT DELTA DOWNS

SPEEDY GELDING WINS SECOND STAKES IN LAST THREE STARTS

VINTON, LA. – Delta Downs hosted the $75,000 Sam’s Town Stakes on Saturday afternoon and the heavy favorite, Greeley and Ben did not disappoint as the Karl Broberg trainee cruised to victory under leading jockey Tim Thornton. The property of End Zone Athletics Inc. was wearing blinkers for the first time and the equipment change paid off in a big way.

After breaking a bit tardy and starting his five-furlong trip in last position of a field of six, Greeley and Ben switched to the outside and rushed up to engage pacesetter Mighty Mischief going into the far turn. The pair clicked off an opening quarter mile in 22.58 seconds before Greeley and Ben took command turning for home. The eventual winner went a half mile in 46.54 before cruising home in front by three lengths over Wild Bert, who settled for second. Late runner Best You Ever Seen rallied for third another half-length behind the runner-up.

Greeley and Ben covered the distance over a sealed fast track in a time of 59.16 seconds.

The win by Greeley and Ben was the 17th of his 28-race career. It also came after he had a nine-race winning streak broken in his most recent start at Fair Grounds Race Course on November 25. His winning paycheck from the Sam’s Town Stakes was $45,000 and it raised his career bankroll to $529,398.

Greeley and Ben is a 8-year-old bay gelding by Greeley’s Conquest, out of the Langfuhr mare Traci’s Wild. He was bred in Kentucky by Milliard Seldin Revokable Trust.

Sent to the gate at odds of 1-5, Greeley and Ben paid $2.60 to win, $2.10 to place and $2.10 to show. Wild Bert returned $2.60 to place and $2.20 to show. Best You Ever Seen was worth $4.20 to show.

Delta Down will contest live racing next week Wednesday through Saturday again. First post time each day is at 12:55 pm.
