LOUISIANA SHOWCASE NIGHT TAKES CENTER
STAGE ON SATURDAY AT DELTA DOWNS

THE $744,302 LEE BERWICK FUTURITY HIGHLIGHTS RICHEST CARD OF THE YEAR

VINTON, LA. – Delta Downs will host the richest American Quarter Horse program of the year on Saturday, July 16 when Louisiana Showcase Night takes center stage. The annual event is devoted to horses bred in Louisiana with eight stakes races during a 10-race card. The main event will be the $744,302 Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1), which will be the final race on the program. First post time is scheduled for 6:15 pm.

This year’s Lee Berwick field is headed by Rogelio Marquez, Jr.’s undefeated colt San Lorenzo Jet. The Jesus Marquez trainee has won two trial races and the final of this year’s $332,000 Laddie Futurity (RG2) at Delta Downs on May 28. San Lorenzo Jet has been installed as the solid 6-5 morning line favorite and will be ridden by jockey David Alvarez. The multiple leading rider at Delta Downs has been aboard for each of his victories, including a dominating score in the Lee Berwick trial where he posted the fastest qualifying time of 17.62 seconds for 350 yards.

The second richest race on the program is the $188,160 Delta Downs Derby (RG3), where 5-2 morning line favorite Louisiana Tequila will take on nine rivals in the 400-yard test for 3-year-olds. The Juan Cano trainee will try to make up for a troubled trip in last year’s Louisiana Million (RG1) at Evangeline Downs where he finished seventh for owner Gene Cox. Louisiana Tequila will be piloted by James Flores.

This year’s $70,000 Louisiana Classic will feature a showdown between two horses who’ve already won stakes races at the Vinton track this year. Hezaa Fast Boy most recently won the Vals Fortune/Teddy Abrams, Jr. Memorial Stakes (RG2) on July 1, while Jj Heza Fast Dash Jr took the Open Me a Corona Stakes (RG2) back on opening weekend. Hezaa Fast Boy has been tabbed as the 5-2 morning line favorite in the race and will be ridden by David Alvarez. Jj Heza Fast Dash Jr. is the second choice at 7-2 and will be guided by Ricardo Hernandez, Jr.
